Migration and Human Security
The European Union is currently working on the elaboration of a comprehensive Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy to steer the Union's action in an increasingly connected, contested and complex international environment. In the run-up to this strategy Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, has launched a strategic reflection process. This process includes a series of outreach and consultation events in the EU Member States. In Slovenia, the conference will focus on EU’s strategic approach towards migration. How can the EU adapt its foreign policy instruments and tools in order to respond to migration and build resilience of states and societies affected by it – in the case of the Western Balkans, particularly as transit countries? How can a human security approach help achieve EU objectives and policies in this regard? Can Brdo - Brijuni process help manage the migration crisis, in particular on the Balkan route? The EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and the Centre for European Perspective are pleased to announce the EU Global Strategy event at which well-known experts and high-ranking EU officials will discuss these highly pressing issues of migration and human security.
